Let It Snow

Just to set the scene the photographs in the previous post, Glorious Gorey, were taken TWO DAYS before this post! There had been red weather alerts posted a few days before informing us of a cold weather front that would arrive in the early hours of Monday morning. In Jersey the bus companies primarily dictate whether the schools will close or not for obvious transport reasons. Of course there is also input from the education department and on this occasion, despite there being no snow at 6am, the schools were closed on Monday. This was the right decision as the Island was covered in a thick 15 tog duvet of snow by midday! No mere blanket of snow for us! Some of the rural parishes were completely cut off from the road network until Thursday when the snow finally stopped and the states vehicles were able to clear the roads. The snow was over 1.5m deep in places and the snow piles at the side of the roads lasted for well over a week after the initial snow had melted. Here are a few photographs from inside the comfort of our own home!

Glorious Gorey

Jersey is known as the British Riviera. Being part of the British Isles, though over 100 miles away, we are sometimes subject to their weather systems. However, we more often than not are blessed with much more favourable weather than on the mainland. This particular weekend was Ward Conference and the stake visitors were delayed due to severe fog that miraculously cleared for the afternoon leaving Jersey bathed in glorious sunshine.

With meetings cancelled Mike and I decided to go and get an ice-cream from Gorey (pronounced Goree-the best there is on the Island). There is a small area of the beach that is always uncovered, except in very high tides, and, when basking in the warm rays of the sun, I remarked to Mike that I felt like I was on holiday to which he replied that every day is a holiday in Jersey!

Gorey Castle, better known as Mount Orgueil, is one of the Islands historic defences. Mike and I visited there when I first came to visit him in Jersey. We have just bought Heritage cards and plan to go again soon. We can't wait!

Below the castle sits the quaint fishing town of Gorey. I never tire of visiting this place! Sometimes, for a treat, we will buy fish and chips then go and park on the pier and watch the tide.

Established 8th December 2012

The Michael and Rebekah Key family was formally established on 8th December 2012 in Middlesbrough and solemnised in Preston Temple later that evening. What a great beginning! Five months on we thought (well Rebekah did) that its high time we jumped on the blogging bandwagon so here goes! Here are a few photographs of our wonderful wedding day (www.dbimages.net). We are grateful for all those who came and celebrated with us and they are grateful for the decadent array of desserts provided!
