Man of Steel

Henry Cavill, aka the new Superman, is a Jersey Bean born and bred!  There was a premiere at the local Cineworld cinema, here in Jersey, with a red carpet and all the trimmings.  Henry brought a couple of friends along to further entertain the crowd.  See if you can guess who they are! ;) To say I was unexpectedly beside myself was an understatement! Most people were lined up 3-4 deep near the door to the cinema but for photographically savvy people, such as myself, we found ourselves at the lower end of the proceedings which was much less populated and managed to gain some pretty good vantage points for capturing the moment! Enjoy the beauty that will unfold photograph by photograph.

We're going to the Zoo Zoo Zoo!

As part of my birthday treat, Mike took me to the zoo though it's not really a zoo. It's real title is Durrell Wildlife Conservation Trust, which was set up by Gerald Durrell, the famous author.  We had a jolly nice day while Mike took these photographs with his super duper 18-300 zoom.

The gorilla's were fed at 2pm accompanied by an audio narrative. I'm sure the narrating lady spends her time going round the zoo giving talks because we saw and heard her again in the bat enclosure! There are MANY of the gorillas! There was a male gorilla many years ago called Jambo, sadly now he has died, who looked after a child who fell into the enclosure. See here for further reading and here to watch the footage!

Here is the cute baby gorilla.

Who's the daddy?

Big man at zoo!

A mothers love!

Waiting for dinner................

MMMMMM! Food!

These creatures are red river hogs and funny things they were too!

These cheeky orangutans were hiding in the grass outside the indoor enclosure! I wonder what is going through their minds! ;)

An otter!

These were the funniest, flapping ducks we have ever seen! The just flapped for no reason at all.

The birds came in two by two in the aviary.

This is my favourite bird photograph. We done darling!

Hamptonne Country Life Museum

On a glorious, sunny Saturday we  went to explore Hamptonne Country Life Museum.  This is an old Jersey farm that has been restored to its former glory and now serves as a museum. The displays cover most things about Jersey farming (obviously) to the Good Wyf who gives you olden day kitchen tips. They say that a picture says 1000 words so here we go!

This is an apple press for making cider.

2012 was a very good year!

There are many Jersey cows in Jersey though we have seen some black ones recently!

We thought this was very amusing!

The Good Wyf's house!

I would like some of these kitchen scales!

Mike doing the laundry!

We are VERT grateful for electricity!

More triffids! We must find out what they are.
